“Had To Overcome Statistical Everest,” says Ramiz Raja of Pakistan’s triumph over Sri Lanka in the Galle Test.

Pakistan mounted the biggest chase at the Galle International Stadium to overcome Sri Lanka during their encounter.

The president of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja, lauded the result and declared that Pakistan had “shown the world wrong” by defeating Sri Lanka in the first Test match in Galle by scoring 342 runs in the given amount of time. Pakistan’s chase has the highest score in the venue’s history. This #teamPakistan had to scale a statistical Everest in order to prove the world at Galle wrong, which they dutifully did! Fantastic run pursuit,” tweeted Raja. Additionally, he praised Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique for their exceptional centuries throughout the entire match.

“Best regards, @babarazam258. @imabd28 Abdullah Shafique possibly Pakistan’s hitting legend of the future. Such poise, organization, and elegance, The PCB chairman noted in his tweet.

Pakistan won the match with four wickets remaining thanks to Shafique’s unbroken 160 in the second innings, while Babar Azam’s brave 119 ensured that they only lost a four-run advantage after the first.

After winning the toss and deciding to play, Shaheen Shah Afridi took four wickets to bowl Sri Lanka out for 222.

After Prabath Jayasuriya swept through Pakistan’s batting order, only Babar Azam’s century and Naseem Shah’s uncompromising 52-ball stand prevented the visitors from getting bowled out for a meager total and allowed them to post 218.

The stoic Pakistan skipper completed a remarkable recovery after they had fallen to 85/7.

But Sri Lanka came back well with the bat, giving Pakistan what looked to be a large goal.

Before being bowled out for 337 runs and leaving Dinesh Chandimal on 94, Oshada Fernando (64), Kusal Mendis (76), and Dinesh Chandimal all struck half-centuries.

Pakistan was led by Shafique, who batted well and scored the winning runs, and Babar Azam once more made a crucial 55-run contribution. Mohammad Rizwan also made a contribution with a crucial 40-run inning.

Pakistan now leads the series 1-0. They will now participate in the second Test in Colombo.
