“A Shock For Indian Team,” India vs England

Ajit Agarkar says during the India vs. England test at Edgbaston, “A Shock For Indian Team.”

England defeated India in the fifth Test, which was postponed, by easily achieving a record-breaking goal of 378 at Edgbaston.

On Sunday, England defeated India by seven wickets in the fifth and final game of the rescheduled Test series, establishing their highest-ever successful chase in the fourth innings of a Test match. The host team in the match at Edgbaston, Birmingham, made a remarkable comeback to win after gifting India a 132-run advantage in the first innings. In the game’s last innings, England needed to score 378 runs, which they easily did with the help of unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

To get home, the hosts just needed 76.4 overs. They scored over five runs in each of the final innings. Against Root’s unbeaten 142, Bairstow hit 114 runs without being out. Both innings came after the quick 21.4 over first wicket stand of 107 runs between Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawley (46). In contrast, Root and Bairstow’s combination amassed 269 runs for the fourth wicket in 52.3 overs without being broken.

Ajit Agarkar, a former cricketer for India, asserted that the squad should have made things difficult for England, while also admitting that once players like Bairstow and Root get going, there was little that could be done. He went on to remark that such a loss will shock the Indian squad.

“It’s not a dishonor when there are two guys who have confidence and are quality players… (but) it’s the manner in which India has lost this game,” Ajit Agarkar stated in the post-match broadcast on SonyLIV.

“They surely have to exert more pressure on England to perform hard. For the Indian team to get it as rapidly as England did must be frightening “He added.

Notably, England’s 378-run recovery against India is also the largest successful recovery by any team in a Test match.

With its historic win on Sunday, England evened the five-match series against India.
