Rishabh Pant “Remains An Integral Part Of Our Batting Lineup,” according to Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid allayed concerns over Rishabh Pant’s performance by stating that he will “certainly” be a part of Team India’s plans in the near future.
The five-match T20I series between South Africa and India is knotted at 2-2 after the Sunday series finale at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium was canceled due to rain. Only 3.3 overs were handed to India to score, but they managed to do it with a score of 28/2. Team India was able to mount a comeback and draw the series at two games each after South Africa won the first two T20Is.
Rain forced the postponement of the most recent Twenty20 International. Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India, addressed the media and talked about his team’s game plan as well as the performances of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Dinesh Karthik.
In response to a query regarding Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, the 52-year-old said: “It was good. It is beneficial to turn a team from 0-2 to 2-2 and give them a chance to win the series. You cannot define captaincy solely in terms of victories and defeats. He seems to be a youthful captain who is developing and learning. It is too soon to judge him; you don’t want to do that after only one or a few games.
“When you are in the middle overs and you are encouraging guys to play a bit more offensive sort of cricket, looking to take the game on, it is often exceedingly tough to judge on the basis of 2-3 games. I thought Pant had a respectable IPL in terms of strike rate. I thought he had a good strike rate even though his statistics didn’t seem great. During such process, he can make errors. He still has a significant impact on our hitting lineup, though, given his strength and what he is capable of. It is not very concerning that he has played some solid blows, even though he would have preferred to score a few more runs.
When asked about the performances of Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dravid replied, “Yeah, we are not going to make hasty judgments on anybody; I do not enjoy blaming individuals after one series or one game. Each and every guy who received a chance here truly deserved it. Because there will be successful and unsuccessful games under this game structure, they have earned it. For us, Shreyas Iyer did well and showed a lot of purpose on a couple precarious wickets. In just one inning, Ruturaj demonstrated his talent and ability. In 20-20, you might experience odd matches where your form and efficiency change a little. We are not very disappointed because we had hoped to play a specific type of team cricket.
“And We wanted to play a bit of an aggressive and positive brand of cricket right from the get-go. We are certain of the style of cricket we want to play, even though it won’t always work out. We’ll start the World Cup team formation process as soon as we can. We do intend to do it as soon as we can, but it is impossible to say whether it will happen in the current series or the one after that.
Dravid spoke on Dinesh Karthik, saying: “It was extremely enjoyable to watch Dinesh Karthik take the stage and carry out his allotted role. It opens up a lot more opportunities for us going forward. I’ve been telling the boys that it’s more vital to start bashing the door down in innings like that rather than knocking it open. And a showing like that unquestionably shows that Karthik is striking the ball hard.
