Wasim Jaffer’s well-known comment on Hardik Pandya was, “If Rohit Sharma Not Available…”
Hardik Pandya will lead India in the two-match T20I series against Ireland.
For all-around superstar Hardik Pandya, 2022 has been a crucial year. He therefore allayed worries about his physical condition, bowling skills, and whether he still deserved a spot in the Indian side by leading Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League season in their inaugural season in what was actually his maiden campaign as a captain. He will therefore serve as India’s captain for the next two-match T20 International series against Ireland. Wasim Jaffer, a former cricketer for India, said that the all-rounder would be his first pick to lead India without Rohit Sharma because he believes the selection committee made the correct decision in making him captain.
“In my perspective, he deserves that. He should be taken seriously as a leader in future white-ball cricket by Indian selection! On ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer offered his thoughts on the choice of Hardik as captain.
In particular, if Rohit Sharma is not available, I think Hardik Pandya should be the first pick, he said.
“Based on how he led in the IPL and how his individual performances came through, I believe he is a person who relishes the job, and going forward, I believe he would be my No. 1 option after Rohit Sharma. As a result, it makes sense that he is in charge, Jaffer continued.
Jaffer continued, “I would like Hardik Pandya to be the vice-captain so any time Rohit misses any game or any series (Hardik will have an opportunity)” in the case that Rohit plays.
“Hardik Pandya thrives in his field and motivates those around him, particularly in white-ball cricket. He is without a doubt my second choice after Rohit Sharma, Jaffer added.
Rishabh Pant, who also served as Hardik’s deputy, took over as captain of India in the current T20I series against South Africa when KL Rahul was forced to withdraw due to a groin injury.
However, Pant is anticipated to join the Test squad following the South Africa series in time for the fifth Test’s revised Birmingham location.
